Halloween Antics

Tenby Halloween

So as it says in my little profile I am a Working Mum. As a mum and wife I get a few hours to myself of an evening if I am lucky. If I am really lucky then I get those few hours with my husband.

Well sometimes I feel as if a full time job in a hotel, and being a full time mum just doesn’t take up enough of my time and energy (said no mother ever!). So I have managed to talk myself into volunteer work. I organise and run a Pancake Race & Dinner event every February to help raise funds for Tenby’s RNLI. On average we raise £500 – £600 each year. So this event rewards with great satisfaction of helping a very worthy cause.

This year I have talked myself into helping a local shopkeeper (Lollies Traditional Sweet Shop in Tenby) and we are building up the event she has run for the last seven years called Tenby’s Trick or Treat Trail. This event allows the smaller children to be involved in Halloween without putting the fear of god into the parents while they knok on strangers doors. This event goes on a guided trail around the shops and local business’s in the Town. It has become so popular that more than 300 children and adults of all ages have started to join in the fun. So for 2016 we are taking it up a notch. We have organised a Zombie Walk.

The Zombie Walk has become overwhelmingly popular all around the world and with the cult following of The Walking Dead it was only a matter of time before it made it’s way to little old Tenby Town in Pembrokeshire.

We will be gathering to start the walk at the entrance of the town cemetery (how spooky is that) we have a hearse for the crowd to follow into the town centre and even a photo opportunity with hearse. As if that wasn’t enough we have arranged for a Halloween disco to follow. There will be spooky dancing, games and even prizes for the best fancy dress.

Oh my! as if my life is not busy enough as it is and I have talked myself into this. On the other hand I LOVE these sorts of events. FREE, FUN and a little bit of special fx makeup. Truth be told I am like a pig in shit. OH I really do hope this goes well and plenty of people turn up.

Wish me luck.

We are not PHOTOGRAPHERS!

Ok so this time I have been inspired by the trend that everyone now believes they are a “Photographer”. STOP IT!

Can we all just put this into a little perspective please.

I have, for most of my life, enjoyed the art of photography. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (I know we all think that. But stay with me here I have proof) and everyone is forever taking the snapshot of the view and then filtering it through photoshop. Some of these people need to learn the art of subtlety when using some of the filters.

I have un-friended many people on social media when they start to invite me to like their new photography page. Oh Please you are a chump with a camera and nothing more! You have not sold a single picture, the press (including the local rag) do NOT use your images and only your friends have liked your page. Most of the comments are from your parents telling you how artistic you are, or you best mate telling you “Lush DUDE”. So let’s get real here. You still have to work a full time job, no-one has paid for your photos or even asked you for a photo of something. Hell have you ever done a photo shoot? do you have the equipment to a photo shoot? In fact whenever there is a big event on that would be perfect for that shot you have been wait all you life for; YOU HAVE TO WORK! Your real job!

Now I am a hotel manager. I work 50+ hours a week, have two children and a husband who also works 40+ hours a week in a hotel. Busy lady I know ! I work with this view every day.

See I told you!

I am NOT a photographer. I am a hotel worker with a camera. I love to take pictures of family, friends, holidays and this view because I enjoy doing it. Yes I can, and do, use photoshop. I take photos because I want to share the love not make money.

So just for you and anyone who you would like to share it with I have included a few more photos:

Halloween Horns

Halloween Horns

This is what I did to my husbad and neighbour this Halloween.
I have to admit that I started this project with the intent for getting the kids involved in a different kind of craft this year. Sadly I failed and I got caught up in my own tornado of excitement.

This has been a great little project. I have watched about 100 youtube videos on how to use liquid latex and this was my year. I found a grate tutorial for making horns and figured I would give it a bash. I had so much fun with these that I am going to attempt some elf ears for Christmas.

I might just have to throw a festive party.

There are moments of beauty that many have described and captured in so many different ways. Having lived on the coast for most of my life I have seen skies meeting the the sea horizon in many different lights. There was one morning in particular that will always stand out in my memory.

This particular day was 3 years ago, 6am in the morning and as I strolled down the cliftop gardens and onto the cold soft sands of our local beach I looked up to see this image aboove. Ironmen preparing for the day ahead. These guys had been up since 4 am and were stood at the waters edge mentaly graphing out thier day. 2.4 mile swin in open Welsh waters, a 112 mile cycle ride around the hilly and not so kind counrtyside of Pembrokehire finishing off with a 26.2 mile run.
To me the thourght of walking to the next village is enough but these guys are pulling out all the stops. All I could think was what is going through their minds? are they just taking in one of the most amazing sunrises available over the old fishing harbour or are they lost in focus of the fight?

This moment was beyond words and filled me with a rush of my own emotions, to the point where I could feel a tear breaking through. The power that just simply radiates from the 1500 entrants in an Ironman competition is so infectious it pushes your heart rate up and melts your mind all at the same time.

This is one of those precious moments that is worth getting out of bed at, an ungodly, 5am to support and encourage complete strangers.
